BREAKING: FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGREES TO ASUU DEMANDS
After long discussions and deliberations between the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), there is an indication that the Federal government has reached a memorandum of understanding with ASUU which might end the long experienced strike.
According to Premium Times reporter who reports that Biodun Ogunyemi who is the national president of ASUU spoke after the meeting with the minister of labor and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, on Monday 7 January 2019.
The ASUU national president said the National Executive Committee of the union will review the new commitment of the federal government. He said it is only after the meeting that the strike will be called off.
On the part of Federal government, Dr. Ngige said that agreement has been reached and that the accountant general and the ministry of finance have confirmed with evidence that N 15.4 billion had been released to cover funding in public universities.
However, he also confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N20 billion to be used to offset the outstanding areas of the 2009 to 2012 audit verified audit verified earnings in the universities. He also said that the earned allowance will be released as soon as the process is completed.
The team is also scheduled to meet with the leadership of Nigeria Labour/leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) following a threat by the latter to commence mobilization of workers and citizens ahead of a planned strike over issues relating to managing wage
