FORMER PRESIDENT OBASANJO; MY ROLE IN NEXT MONTH ELECTION
Next month election is key to the growth, peace, and unity of the country, this has been a major issue among the masses and prominent Nigerians.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that his role will be that of a vigilant watchman, who will not hesitate to raise the alarm whenever there are irregularities. The Ex-President said this during the visit of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) delegates, led by its presidential contestant, Yabaji Sani, at Abeokuta on Thursday.
In a statement signed and released by the Director, Media, and Publicity of Yabaji Sani Presidential Campaign Organization, Pam Ibrahim, The Formal President has to urge well-meaning Nigerians to participate fully in the forthcoming election in which he termed participatory democracy in order to vote in credible and patriotic leaders and representatives.
In his speech, ''It is undemocratic, the attitude of some politicians who heat up polity by undermining and denigrating other Nigerians through thuggery and harassment of innocent citizens.
My role in Nigerian politics would be that of a watchman who is expected to be vigilant and raise alarm whenever it is necessary he further emphasized. He believes that Nigeria is on a journey that has three phases and expressed the hope that the ADP, as an emerging political force would key into this journey to nationhood and provide good leadership looking at the caliber of its members, especially as Nigerians calls for responsible leadership.
The ADP Presidential candidates in his words informed the Ex-President that his decision to contest for the office of the president was borne out of the frustration and bad leadership laced with security being experience by Nigerians.
He further said, ''We are in a country where the security of citizens is no longer guaranteed giving the crime rate we experience on a daily basis, especially insurgency, armed robbery and kidnappings across the country''.
Sani, who further praise the leadership virtues of Obasanjo, appealed to him not to relent in providing a useful contribution that would rekindle the hopes of Nigerians for a better future.
The presidential contestant uses the opportunity to solicited as the APC candidate called on Nigerians to vote for him as president of Nigeria come February 2019.
